At the close of the 2009 school year, a 7-year-old tradition was kept alive when two middle school students were presented with Woodlawn's top honors. Annie Wacker, an 8th grader from Davidson, was awarded the Founders' Award, and Joe Andry, also an 8th grader from Davidson, was honored with the Stinson Award for Academic Excellence. The Founders' Award is given to the middle school student that best exemplifies Woodlawn's mission - to become an independent, lifelong learner who is a responsible, contributing member of our global society. The winner of this award must not only excel in the classroom, but must also be a role model in extracurricular activities and in service to the larger community. The student must be respected as a leader on campus, and must demonstrate respect toward his/her peers, teachers, and the school. The George W. Stinson Award for Academic Excellence is given to the middle school student who has exhibited the greatest academic achievement over the course of the year. The award is named in honor of the builder of Woodlawn's historic administration building. Winners of both awards are selected based on the input of Woodlawn administration and faculty. ![]()
