SCHOOL THE WAY IT IS MEANT TO BE
EARLY EXPLORERS (PRE-K)
Our Early Explorers program is focused on creating a supportive environment that nurtures adaptive, respectful, and emotionally intelligent young students who are eager and ready to learn.
The curriculum for our Explorers:
+ Rooted and designed to reflect age-appropriate developmental needs
+ Playing and learning in nature – 61 acres of woods, fields, trails, outdoor classrooms, and a working garden
+ Balances academic preparation and play
+ Develops the foundation for emotional intelligence and self-control needed for future success
+ Active, hands-on learning centered on projects that are fun and fundamental to the acquisition of learning skills
+ Based on the Responsive Classroom, a program designed to foster self-control by nurturing the concepts of mutual trust and respect

JOYFUL LEARNING
DISCOVER KINDERGARTEN READINESS
Through project work, sources of information are not limited to traditional textbooks. Instead, students examine information from “expert” adults, field experiences, primary source documents, nonfiction books, and Internet resources. Keeping in line with our methodology, technology is integrated into the classroom in developmentally appropriate ways, rather than provided as a discrete subject area in a computer lab environment.
In addition to meeting our academic standards, students completing our Lower School program are equipped with the skills necessary to be successful in Middle School. Lower School students are developing the ability to:
+ act responsibly and respectfully
+ demonstrate integrity
+ solve problems and think critically
+ organize and analyze information
+ cooperate with groups of peers
+ recognize and respect each other’s points of view
