'Blazers Fund First FAQ
What is Annual Giving?
'Blazers Fund is Woodlawn School's annual giving campaign. It is our top annual fundraising priority. Our goal this year is to raise $200,000. The 'Blazers Fund's unrestricted gifts help sustain educational excellence for our students. Each year, all members of our community (parents, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, grandparents, and friends) are asked to make a tax- deductible gift to Woodlawn School. The funds raised through the 'Blazers Fund ensures our school has all the necessary resources (faculty, facilities, technology, and program support) to provide each child with an exceptional Woodlawn School education.
Do all independent schools fundraise?
As you may know from other nonprofits you support, program fees – in Woodlawn’s case, tuition – cover only part of annual expenses. (We believe, for instance, that it’s important to offer “extra” programs beyond traditional academics -- such as experiential field trips and serving learning opportunities – that are outside of the scope of tuition.) The remainder is covered by additional income, primarily gifts from generous donors like you, and our students benefit greatly.
Why is the 'Blazers Fund giving so important?
Tuition covers about 82% percent of the school's annual budget. 'Blazers Fund impacts every part of out community- faculty and staff recruitment and retention, academic programming, technology, athletics, innovation in the classroom, and more.
Why doesn't Woodlawn simply raise tuition to cover the cost of a Woodlawn School education?
Woodlawn School endeavors to maintain tuition rates that are comparable with peer schools and kept at a level that makes an independent school education possible for a wide scope of families with varying economic circumstances. Keeping tuition rates moderated, without compromising the quality of our educational program, is an important core value of Woodlawn School.
How much am I expected to give?
Our request is that you make Woodlawn School your primary philanthropic priority. We ask that you contribute at a level that is personally meaningful and that makes sense for your family. Every gift is greatly valued and appreciated. We hope to have 100% current parent and faculty/staff participation.
Why is 100% participation so important?
It is a vote of confidence in our school, our faculty, and our educational mission. 100% participation is evidence that everyone in our community shares in the effort. This supports our philosophy that we must all work together to provide our children and the future generations of graduates with the best possible education.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Annual Giving donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Our Tax ID Number is 42-1544637.
If I make a pledge by December 31, may I pay later?
Absolutely. You have until June 30 to make your pledge payment.
May I make payments over time to maximize my family's gift?
Yes. Please indicate on your pledge form how you would like to pay.
