DESCRIPTION:Earth Day\nApril 19\, 2024\n  \nIn honor of Earth Day\, we want to take sustainability to the next level. We are asking our Woodlawn students to show wildlife that we can just say no to trash in our lunches!  Each student and family is asked on Friday\, April 19 o take the time to pack a lunch without throw-away plastic-wrapped foods!  So you will need to get creative and pack your yogurt or veggies in a reusable container (reusable plastic containers are okay\, just no throw-aways)!  You can put your sandwich in a reusable plastic or metal sandwich container\, some bee’s wax wrap\, or just in a cloth napkin! Paper napkins are acceptable since paper will be composted along with food waste\, but cloth napkins are so much prettier\, soft on the mouth and less wasteful. We always bring reusable water bottles\, so that is the easy part! \n*To support our school effort\, there will be no hot lunch offered on Friday\, April 19.\n\nWhy say no to trash?  Well\, each thing we use in the world costs energy to make.  So pre-packaged foods have a much larger carbon footprint than fresh foods.  And local\, fresh foods are even better! Also\, plastic in the environment hurts wildlife and enters the food chain when the plastic breaks down.  Scientists are now finding microplastics in living organisms that are in our food chains!  We don’t want to eat plastic!  So just say no to trash and do Woodlawn proud on Friday\, April 19 and pack a trash-free lunch!\n\nYou can do it!  Wildlife will thank you for it with their beautiful songs!

DESCRIPTION:HOLIDAY ADOPTION EVENT @ Aloft Hotel Mooresville\nWhat: Holiday Adoption Event supporting Piedmont Animal Rescue\nWhen: Saturday\, December 9\nTime: 12 PM to 4 PM\nWhere: Aloft Hotel in Mooresville \nThe 1st and 6th grade students are teaming up with their service learning partner\, Piedmont Animal Rescue\, for their Holiday Adoption Celebration on December 9th at Aloft Hotel in Mooresville from 12:00-4:00. \nAs part of Woodlawn’s tradition of supporting others who need our help during the holiday season\, the students have created original art of the animals who are looking for a forever home and made a “giving tree” decorated with ornaments that include items the animals at Piedmont Animal Rescue need. The artwork and the giving tree will be displayed at Aloft. \nOther activities include pictures with Santa\, a silent auction\, food trucks\, and local vendors. Hope to see you at Aloft Hotel on Saturday\, December 9 from 12 PM to 4 PM to view the artwork\, adopt an animal\, or donate to a worthy cause. You can find more information on the Aloft Mooresville Facebook page. Carrburritos will donate a percentage of the profits back to Woodlawn from 4 PM to close\, so bring your friends\, too!\n‘Blazer Students Coin Challenge: Our students will be participating in a coin challenge Monday\, November 6 – Thursday\, November 9\, so get ready to encourage them in their efforts to make a difference.\n‘Blazers Give Thanks Breakfast Social: All parents and grandfriends are invited to come together for a special breakfast social to celebrate the collective spirit of giving and thanks.
