Outdoor Fall Art
Fall Weather + Outdoors + Art = Perfect Learning Environment
Third grade students have been learning how to draw portraits in art and they took advantage of the recent fall weather to work outside on their pencil sketches of characters from the novel, The Double Life of Pocahontas. I can’t think of a better way to spend art class on a fall day! You may see John Smith, Pocahontas, or Chief Powhatan in some of their artwork. This art piece is integrated with LA/SS as the students are reading about Pocahontas while studying the Jamestown Settlement. This unit culminates in an overnight trip to Jamestown at the end of October where they will be immersed in experiential learning. Megan and Elizabeth agreed that learning to draw the portrait on a larger scale was difficult, but they were both very pleased with their final products!
