radKIDS Personal Safety Program
This fall, students in grades K-7 participated in a 12-week radKIDS Safety Program that teaches students to recognize, avoid, and respond to potential danger by empowering them to take action. Woodlawn partnered with Karen and David Fisher who run the radKIDS program in the Lake Norman area. We included radKIDS as part of our Life Sports curriculum for the fall trimester. rad stands for Resisting Aggression Defensively. Students learned principals of personal safety, vehicle safety, gun safety, home safety and 911, Internet safety, and what to do when strangers approach. radKIDS is dedicated to breaking the potential cycle of victimization and Woodlawn felt it was incredible important to empower our students with these skills so that if they are ever faced with a scary situation, their response will be immediate, instinctual, and absolute. Students participated in a simulation at the end of the program where they applied all that they have learned.
