Our boys and girls made the trek to Hickory to take on the SPAA Conference schools at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Both teams took third place in the overall scoring, but there were some exciting Trailblazer highlights. For the boys, senior Jake Johnson continued his hot streak, winning the long jump, breaking his own triple jump school record, and then smashing David Hager’s 4-year-old school record in the 400m with a winning time of 52.71. Jake has now qualified for the state meet in 5 events (and is only 1 inch away from qualifying in the high jump) – something no Trailblazer has ever accomplished. The girls were led by 8th grader Gabby Polsky, who set a new school record in the discus and a personal record in the shot put with state qualifying throws in both events. Fellow 8th grader Natalie Boyle qualified for her fourth state meet event by setting a school record in the 100m hurdles.
