What is a Capstone Square?
Senior Capstone got a facelift this year and is ready for your feedback!
Senior Capstone at Woodlawn is a nine month field-based inquiry project where our Senior students immerse themselves in a research topic of their choosing. Students are encouraged to pick a topic or passion of personal interest that has many avenues through which they can explore. Once they narrow their interests, they come up with a ‘big question’ and/or problem to investigate. Students are guided in doing field research, connecting their project back to the community, applying their findings to the execution of a culminating, presentational product, and documenting the entire project process.

Over the summer, students were given a list of things to do in order to generate ideas and help them settle on a topic. When there are no limitations, narrowing it down to one can be a daunting task! The Capstone Square is the first mapping out of each student’s big question they plan to investigate. Comments, ideas, and suggestions can all be written on the provided sticky notes and left for each Senior on their bulletin board square. The idea is for each student to receive community feedback on their topic in hopes of making connections or gaining insights from a wider range of people. Located in Woods Hall, we invite you to take a look and offer feedback the next time you’re on campus!
