Our After Care program is offered daily from 3:15pm to 5:30pm for Middle School students. There is a designated quiet time for students to focus on homework. Students will also play outside on the playground or indoors during inclement weather. Students should bring their own snack and drink as desired. The student handbook outlines additional details about the After Care program including schedule and fees.
After School Help takes place weekly on Mondays and Thursday after school until 4:00pm. All teachers are available for questions, extra help, and make-up work. No appointments are necessary as students may walk in any classroom and come & go as needed between teachers during this time.
All middle school students have a locker that they visit between each class; therefore, backpacks are not carried throughout the day. Lockers at Woodlawn do not have locks as we hold each student accountable in following the Honor Code and respecting another’s property. Shelves and hooks are provided in each building where students can place their lunch boxes and hang their empty backpacks or coats.

We strive to make drop off and pickup a smooth and safe transition for everyone. There are two drop off areas on campus, the car loop near Stinson Hall and the driveway by Woods Hall. All K-7 students should be dropped off near Stinson Hall. Students in grades 8-12 can be dropped off at Woods Hall. For drop off in the mornings, students should not be on campus earlier than 7:45am unless they have made prior arrangements with a teacher.
For pick-up, we have three car line locations: Stinson car loop, Stinson gravel lot, and Woods Hall. Students in grades 2-5 should use the Stinson car loop for pickup. Students in grades 6 & 7 should use the Stinson gravel lot for pick up. 8th graders can be picked up at Woods Hall. For pick up of students in multiple grade levels, we ask that our older students report to the car line of the youngest child in the car for grades 2-12.
Cell phones must remain off and out of sight during regular school hours (8:00am to 3:30pm)
With explicit faculty or administrative permission, students may use personal cell phones to call or text a parent during lunch, but typically students will be directed to the office to make phone calls.
If you need to get a message to your student during the school day, please call the office.
Cell phones must remain off and out of sight on overnight field trips until designated call times. In certain cases (e.g., lack of cell service at trip location), students may be required to leave cell phones at home.
Students in grades 6-12 are required to bring a personal laptop to school everyday.
Personal laptops must be fully charged at the beginning of each school day.
Personal laptops should not be borrowed or shared between students.
Students will not plagiarize works found on the internet. Plagiarism is taking the ideas, graphics, or writings of others and presenting them without adequate and accurate citation.
Email should only be used for school-related purposes during the school day.
Students will not knowingly or recklessly post false or defamatory information that could cause damage or harm to a persona or a disruption to the school.
Students will not engage in personal attacks through the use of technology (computer or phone), including prejudicial or discriminatory.
Students will not use, access, transmit, or download information that is inappropriate, offensive, or protected by copyright.

Woodlawn embraces individuality and does not require a uniform. However, students are expected to make appropriate choices in terms of clothing and appearance. Woodlawn is a place of active learning and expects that students will dress accordingly on a daily basis. Woodlawn School reserves the right to tell any student that their clothing is not appropriate. Please consult the Student Handbook for specific information regarding the lower school dress code.
Students progress in middle school is measured against a set of Woodlawn standards which outline what a student should know and be able to do in each subject area at the end of each grade. Based on formative and summative assessments throughout the trimester, teachers identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. Teacher comments are included in each report card and the core subject areas receive letter grades based on the following A – F grading scale:

Work that is exemplory and represents complete mastery in the ability to organize, apply, and relate information.

I – Incomplete. Students who miss an excess of 10 days per trimester may receive and “I” in all subject areas.
Homework is part of the learning process, helping to teach self-discipline, responsibility, and time-management. It also helps to reinforce and prepare students for what they are learning in the classroom. Woodlawn faculty members work together as a team to ensure that several assignments or projects are not all due at the same time. However, we do expect students to manager their time in order to turn in each assignment when due.
At Woodlawn, homework is meant to reinforce what is learned in the classroom. The work load may ebb and flow during the trimester, but no student should spend several hours on any one subject. If you find your child is spending too many hours in a subject, please contact the teacher directly in order to discuss strategies to help the student better manage their work load. We hope parents take an interest in what their child is learning in school and act as a resource and guide as they help students search out answers but not provide the answers. The student is ultimately responsible for his or her own homework and must be able to understand and support their answers. We expect all work to be authentic and students to uphold the honor code in all of their work.
Woodlawn is a place of active learning, and being outside is an important part of the Woodlawn experience. Woodlawn’s 61-acre wooded campus provides a unique, almost pastoral atmosphere that enhances students’ learning experiences. Our students enjoy outdoor activities every day so students should dress appropriately for active learning and footwear should be appropriate for physical activity. We also ask that students dress appropriately for weather and keep a small umbrella in the locker for rainy days.

Woodlawn School is an accredited private school providing a project-based learning curriculum for Pre-K – 12 grade academics. Our historic 61-acre campus is located just north of Charlotte, NC in beautiful Mooresville, and within driving distance of Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, North Mecklenburg, and Concord.
