Carl Sukow
Upper School Science

B.S. Davidson College

Combining his love of science, math, music, and the arts to engage students, Upper School Science Teacher, Carl Sukow, often draws comparisons across disciplines such as "drawing the studio artists into the periodic table by discussing the exotic elements used in paints" or "piquing the interest of band students by discussing overtones in brass instruments in a physics unit on sound and light waves" and by "relating to the groovy eleventh-grade electric guitarist in a unit on circuits by talking about potentiometers in amplifiers." His approach to learning is not only informative, it's interesting, engaging and forward thinking.

His approach to learning utilizes a studio style pedagogy: after 30 to 40 minutes of lecture to begin class, he incorporates labs, hands-on practice, or a group activity; where lab and lecture flow effortlessly to keep students interested.

Carl's teaching experience spans Physics, Chemistry, and Astronomy. He has also tutored Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, Chemistry AP, and middle school Physical Science.
