Every dollar makes a difference. Every child benefits.

The 'Blazer Fund

The ‘Blazer Fund is essential to keeping Woodlawn School excellent and innovative. The ‘Blazer Fund is the number one philanthropic priority of Woodlawn School. These unrestricted funds raised help to sustain educational excellence for our students. Gifts to the ‘Blazer Fund enhance every aspect of Woodlawn School including investments in innovative teaching that is the hallmark of project-based learning; improving the technology infrastructure of our campus, enhancing student safety, health and wellness; and, providing professional development opportunities that nurture and support the best faculty.

SEASON OF GIVING

WE ARE THANKFUL

Thank you for being a part of the Woodlawn family. Our community is thriving as we continue to find joy, laughter, and pure delight throughout our campus. We invite you to learn what makes some of our community thankful.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

WHY GIVE?

OUR PURPOSE

We need you to help make a difference in the lives of every student and faculty member. In a labor-intensive industry such as education, where student-to-teacher ratios are a competitive advantage, there are significant costs associated with having the best people working at Woodlawn. People are Woodlawn’s greatest asset – and it is our greatest investment. Salaries and benefits for faculty and staff make up approximately 82% of the budget. Find out more about the importance of supporting Woodlawn School in this guide from the National Association of Independent Schools.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS ANNUAL GIVING?

‘Blazer Fund is Woodlawn School’s annual giving campaign. It is our top annual fundraising priority. Our goal this year is to raise $350,000. The ‘Blazer Fund’s unrestricted gifts help sustain educational excellence for our students. Each year, all members of our community (parents, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, grandparents, and friends) are asked to make a tax- deductible gift to Woodlawn School. The funds raised through the ‘Blazer Fund ensures our school has all the necessary resources (faculty, facilities, technology, and program support) to provide each child with an exceptional Woodlawn School education.

HOW MUCH AM I EXPECTED TO GIVE?

Our request is that you make Woodlawn School your primary philanthropic priority. We ask that you contribute at a level that is personally meaningful and that makes sense for your family. Every gift is greatly valued and appreciated. We hope to have 100% current parent and faculty/staff participation.

DO ALL INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS FUNDRAISE?

As you may know from other nonprofits you support, program fees – in Woodlawn’s case, tuition – cover only part of annual expenses. (We believe, for instance, that it’s important to offer “extra” programs beyond traditional academics — such as experiential field trips and serving learning opportunities – that are outside of the scope of tuition.) The remainder is covered by additional income, primarily gifts from generous donors like you, and our students benefit greatly.

WHY IS THE 'BLAZER FUND GIVING SO IMPORTANT?

Tuition covers about 89% percent of the school’s annual budget. ‘Blazer Fund impacts every part of our community- faculty and staff recruitment and retention, academic programming, technology, athletics, innovation in the classroom, and more.

WHY DOESN'T WOODLAWN SIMPLY RAISE TUITION TO COVER THE COST OF A WOODLAWN EDUCATION?

Woodlawn School endeavors to maintain tuition rates that are comparable with peer schools and kept at a level that makes an independent school education possible for a wide scope of families with varying economic circumstances. Keeping tuition rates moderated, without compromising the quality of our educational program, is an important core value of Woodlawn School.

WHY IS 100% PARTICIPATION SO IMPORTANT?

It is a vote of confidence in our school, our faculty, and our educational mission. 100% participation is evidence that everyone in our community shares in the effort. This supports our philosophy that we must all work together to provide our children and the future generations of graduates with the best possible education.
