Senior Capstones 2017

Senior Internship Week

What do birds of prey, therapy animals, third graders, and clinical patients all have in common? They are with whom our senior students spent time over Internship Week in March!

This year, Senior Internship Week was executed for the first time in the month of March (instead of May) in order to allow students more time for documentation and expansion upon their Capstone projects. Seniors reported they learned a lot and enjoyed their time in the ‘professional world.’

While one Senior helped design and launch an Instagram campaign for a local juice company, another helped to design the newest ‘Escape Room’ plot at Race City, and yet another sat in on brainstorming sessions with the Nike Innovation team in Oregon. Eliza J. got to scrub in for two neurosurgeries, while Claire S. observed surgery on an injured raptor, and Kelsie M. hung out on a commercial shoot with the Cam Newton. From escape rooms to operating rooms, to the courthouse to state parks, our senior students spent the week getting hands-on experience in a variety of fields. Check out the list of who went where!

Local Internships:
Claire S - Carolina Raptor Center / Researching the human impact on endangered animals.
Amelia - Triple Play Farm & Rocky Creek Ranch / Human-animal interaction as a form of therapy.
Eliza - Hospital / Head trauma, affects and neurosurgery.
Ansley - Race City Escapes / Affects of puzzles on early childhood development.
Lanie - Queen’s University & a local elementary school / Music therapy for those with special needs.
Zach - South Mountain State Park / Researching the importance of the US State Park system.
Matt - Law Office in Charlotte / Capital Punishment as a just practice or not.
Quinn - Hero Office / Search engine optimization, digital media analytics of marketing to gain wider audiences.
Erica - Novant Health / Nutrition and the cerebral affects on one’s mood or physical affects on the body.

Kelsie - Creative Network Studios / Film & TV production.
Claire L - Wings for Autism Project / Children with Special Needs.
Rachel - Local Pediatric Psychologist / Social media affect on teens’ mental health.

Out-of-State Internships:
Jake - Nike, Oregon & BodiTrak, St. Louis / Sports medicine and non-traditional treatments for athletes.
Phoebe - Penguin Random Publishing House, NYC / Coming-of-age memoirs - boarding school & the professional ballet world.
Austen - Elementary School, Miami, FL / Therapeutic benefits of music for Autistic students.
Kelsie - Ringling College of Art & Design, FL / Film and society - which affects which?
