fREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Parent Connection is honored to support our students, teachers, and school in hosting the 2023 Gala! Join us on April 22 for a fun evening and the opportunity to walk away with fantastic auction items – there will be something for everyone!

The information below is intended to answer any questions you may have. If we can provide any additional information,
please contact Rainie Hutchinson.

What is the Green & White Gala?

The Green & White Gala is Woodlawn’s annual evening of celebration where we gather with the extended Woodlawn community to raise funds and support our school. If this is your first time attending the Green & White Gala, we’d love you to join us for a seated dinner and open bar.  The evening will feature a live and silent auction, music, casino tables, and a wine pull.

As an independent school and a non-profit organization, Woodlawn School relies on philanthropic support to provide an exceptional and innovative learning environment. Tuition covers 82% of the school’s annual budget and the ‘Blazers Fund, Woodlawn’s annual giving campaign, makes up the difference with donations from parents and the greater Woodlawn community.

The Gala is the school’s major fundraising event. All gala profits go to the ‘Blazers Fund to help reach the 2022/23 goal of $320,000. This support enables Woodlawn to invest in innovative teaching that is the hallmark of project-based learning; improve the technology infrastructure of our campus; enhance student safety, health, and wellness; and provide professional development opportunities to support our faculty.

What is a silent auction?

Instead of a traditional auction where you raise your bid paddle to notify the auctioneer of your bid. A silent auction allows you to silently bid on the auction items you’re interested in.

Silent auction items will be on display at the gala and range from fabulous experiences and entertainment baskets, services, and novelties, to summer camps, birthday parties, and incredible opportunities for the kids. There will be something for everyone!

Bids are placed in increasing increments. You should return to your items several times throughout the evening, placing additional bids if necessary, to ensure that you’re the highest bidder when the auction closes. Auction items will be grouped into categories and there will be staggered closings throughout the evening.

What is a live auction?

The live auction is hosted by a professional auctioneer taking bids in real-time during dinner. Once everyone is seated, the auctioneer will introduce the first item up for bid. To place a bid, lift your bidder paddle with your bidder number on it so that it’s visible to the auctioneer. He will recognize your bid by raising the bid price. The winning bidder will be announced by the auctioneer once no higher bids have been placed.

How do I know which items are going to be auctioned?

Silent and live auction items will be posted to the gala webpage one week before the event.

Is there an obligation to bid and buy?

The Gala is both a fundraiser and a community-building event. Your attendance is valued, and while there will be items to fit every budget, there is no obligation to bid or make purchases.

What are class projects?

Class projects are unique pieces of art created and donated by our students at each grade level. Class projects will be up for bid during the live auction along with other unique, higher-priced items.

For months prior to the gala, Woodlawn students work with our wonderful art teachers, Ms. Lysne and Ms. Kennedy, and our upper school teachers to create these unique grade-level art projects. These projects are thoughtfully designed to reflect and integrate each grade’s curriculum. Class projects are heirlooms that beautifully represent the Woodlawn approach to education, integration, creativity, and expression. You won’t want to miss an opportunity to bid on these one-of-a-kind items!

I am not able to make it to the Gala, but I would like to contribute.

Thank you! Your presence will be missed, but we sincerely appreciate your contribution. All monetary donations and monies raised at the Gala will directly support Woodlawn’s academic programming and professional development. We invite you to make a gift to the ‘Blazer Fund.

I would like to volunteer at the Gala, can I still bid on items?

Yes! All volunteers are welcome to bid on auction items. We’d love you to get involved in a way that fits your interests and availability.  Contact Rainie Hutchinson to help.

I have a question, who do I ask?

All questions can be directed to Rainie Hutchinson.
