Woodlawn Track Teams take Runner-Up Spots in SPAA Championship Meet

DAVIDSON, NC – Woodlawn School’s varsity track & field teams collected two runner-up trophies at the SPAA Conference Championship Meet, held today at Victory Christian School. Woodlawn boys finished 2nd to host Victory Christian with a team score of 53 points, while the Woodlawn girls nearly equaled that total, scoring 41 points to also take 2nd place in the team competition behind Victory Christian.

The Woodlawn boys were led by sophomore Quinn Schneider, who pulled off an impressive triple win in addition to anchoring the 2nd place 4x400m relay team for the Trailblazers. Schneider easy cruised to victory in the 3200m and 1600m runs, but had to work hard to hold off freshman teammate Tripp Berini and 2 opposing runners in the final meters of the hotly contested 800m run.

On the girls side, the most impressive Woodlawn performance of the meet was turned in by sophomore Amelia Woodall in the 300m Hurdles. Woodall broke her own school record with a time of 52.6 seconds, a performance which ranks #3 among all NCISAA 1A/2A hurdlers. Woodall tacked on a 2nd place in the high jump and another 2nd place in the 200m dash (both personal records) to contribute 16 points to her team’s score.

Other notable performances by Woodlawn athletes at the meet included: sophomore Austen Castellano’s win in the boys high jump, senior Reilly Milburn’s 2nd place in the boys 3200m and 3rd place in the boys triple jump, and senior Rebecca Coutinho’s win in the girls high jump and 2nd place in the girls discus.  View complete meet results.

The Woodlawn track teams now turn their attention to the NCISAA 1A/2A State Championship, to be held on May 15-16 at American Hebrew Academy in Greensboro. In order to qualify to compete in an individual event at the state meet, athletes must meet a minimum standard performance and also have competed in at least four track meets this season. Woodlawn athletes who have qualified for one or more individual events at the state meet are listed below.
