Life at Woodlawn

The community
is the curriculum.

Woodlawn doesn’t just teach students to contribute to the world, it is a community that models what contribution looks like. From Grandfriends to alumni to local business partners, every layer of our community is part of the ‘Blazer story.

Woodlawn Community

More than a school.
A community.

Woodlawn’s traditions are not add-ons to the school year. They are the school year. Each ceremony, gathering, and signature event deepens the bonds between students, families, faculty, and the generations of Blazers who came before.

All School

Convocation Ceremony

Woodlawn’s opening ceremony welcomes every student, family, and faculty member into a new school year together. Convocation sets the tone: this is a community that shows up for each other from day one.

All School

Flower Ceremony

A beloved Woodlawn tradition where students honor the connections that carry them forward. The Flower Ceremony is a moment of reflection, gratitude, and belonging that touches every division.

All School

Woodlawn Day

An all-school celebration that brings every division together in one shared day of community, spirit, and joy. Woodlawn Day is where the whole of who we are shows up at once.

Upper School

Junior Ring Ceremony

A milestone moment for Upper School juniors, marking the transition into their final year at Woodlawn. The Junior Ring Ceremony celebrates growth, identity, and what it means to be nearly ready to launch.

All School

Project Based Learning Day

PBL Day opens the campus to prospective families and the wider community. Students share the work they are actually doing, making the Woodlawn approach visible, real, and alive in every classroom.

Community

Grandfriends Day

Grandfriends Day invites grandparents and special community members onto campus to experience Woodlawn through the eyes of the students who love it most. It is one of the most meaningful days of the school year.

“Woodlawn provides a space for our kids that allows them to truly be themselves.”

Extended Community

Every Generation,
One Woodlawn.

The Woodlawn community extends well beyond students and current families. Grandparents, alumni, local businesses, and community partners are all part of what makes this place extraordinary.

Grandfriends Program

Woodlawn’s Grandfriends program invites grandparents and special community members into school life, from campus visits and classroom observations to named benches and recognition opportunities in Bowman Hall. Grandfriends bring depth, history, and love to our community in ways no curriculum can replicate.

Alumni + “From Here.”

Woodlawn graduates go to research labs and studios, business ventures and community organizations, fields and stages and conversations no one has scripted for them. Our “From Here.” initiative celebrates that impact, connecting former ‘Blazers back to the school and to each other for a lifetime of connection.
