‘Blazers don’t just
study the community.
They are stewards of it.
From Kindergarten through graduation, Woodlawn students build genuine relationships with community partners across the Lake Norman region. Service is not a requirement here. It is how ‘Blazers understand their place in the world.
Real partners.
Real work.
Real impact.
From Kindergarten, Woodlawn students advocate for a specific local or global cause woven through their year-long course of study. Service learning at Woodlawn is not a designated day or a required hour count. Students spend the year building genuine understanding of their service partner: who they are, what they need, and how to contribute in a way that is actually useful.
Upper School students in grades 9 through 11 participate in the Service in Action elective at least one term per year. Each week includes two hours with a community partner and one day supporting the Woodlawn community directly.
This is where the Impact outcome is built: not by studying service, but by doing it, returning to the same communities year after year, and understanding what it means to contribute to something larger than yourself.

Every grade.
Every year.
A real partner.
Each grade level at Woodlawn is paired with a community partner whose mission connects to that year’s course of study. Students do not rotate through service sites. They stay with their partner across the full year, building relationships and depth of understanding that one-time visits cannot produce.

Community Mentor
Senior Capstone students work with a community mentor in their chosen field. The service relationship is embedded in nine months of original research, culminating in a public presentation before graduation.
“Before coming to Woodlawn, I spent most of my free time dreading the next time I had to go to school. Now that feeling has completely disappeared. Everybody here is excited to be here.”Jules W. '14 · Belmont University

The community is
part of the curriculum.
At Woodlawn, stewardship is not a value on a wall. It is what 5th Graders do when they clean trails at Equuvation. It is what 3rd Graders do when they serve lunch at the Christian Mission. It is what a senior does when they spend a year working alongside a community mentor on a problem that matters.
The community organizations ‘Blazers partner with are real. The relationships they build are real. And the understanding they develop of what it means to contribute to the Lake Norman region — Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville — stays with them long after graduation.
Summer on 61 acres.
Open to every curious kid.
Woodlawn’s campus does not go quiet in the summer. Each year, the school opens its 61 acres to the broader Lake Norman community through a wide range of camps designed for students PreK and above, from Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, and beyond. You do not need to be a current ‘Blazer to spend your summer here.
Camps span sports, arts, academics, and outdoor exploration. Summer camp details are released each year in late January. Contact the Woodlawn team to be notified when registration opens.
