Intentional
by design.
Built for
what’s next.
Every decision Woodlawn makes is in service of one thing: producing extraordinary graduates ready to think critically, lead confidently, and make a real impact. Our strategic initiative names exactly what that takes, and commits to building it.
What we are building
toward, and why.
Every institution makes choices about what to invest in. Woodlawn’s choices are grounded in a single question: what does it take to produce extraordinary graduates, consistently and equitably, for every family who trusts us with their children?
The five priorities below are the answer. Together they form a roadmap that strengthens what is already exceptional about Woodlawn and builds the infrastructure to carry it forward for the next generation of ‘Blazers.
Academic Excellence
Deepening PBL outcomes across every division and expanding Pathways of Purpose.
Physical Campus
A new Academic Center of Excellence for the whole ‘Blazer community.
Community + Culture
Strengthening DEI, Grandfriends, and the networks that connect ‘Blazers for life.
Enrollment Growth
Serving more Lake Norman families with Woodlawn’s distinctive education.
Financial Sustainability
A diversified advancement model that supports the mission for decades to come.

Academic Excellence
Woodlawn’s academic program is already built on six graduate outcomes and a PBL methodology that has been sharpened over more than twenty years. The strategic initiative deepens that work, expanding Pathways of Purpose so every Upper School student has access to meaningful, self-directed inquiry, strengthening the college counseling model to reflect the full range of what ‘Blazers accomplish, and investing in the faculty development that makes exceptional teaching sustainable over time.
Academic excellence at Woodlawn is not a credential. It is a set of outcomes that ‘Blazers carry into every room they enter after graduation.

Physical Campus
Woodlawn’s campus in Mooresville, NC is 61 acres of history and possibility. Stinson Hall, built in 1836, anchors a setting that inspires learning at every age. Bowman Hall will add a purpose-built Academic Center of Excellence named for co-founders Karen and Dwayne Bowman, housing collaborative learning spaces, STEAM facilities, and gathering areas built for the way ‘Blazers actually work.
This is not a building. It is the physical expression of Woodlawn’s belief that environment shapes learning, and that extraordinary children deserve extraordinary spaces.

Community + Culture
An extraordinary education requires an extraordinary community. Woodlawn is investing in DEI practices that deepen belonging for every student and family, Grandfriends engagement that weaves generations into school life, and the alumni network built around the “From Here.” initiative that keeps ‘Blazers connected to Woodlawn and to each other long after graduation.
Community at Woodlawn is not a feature. It is the condition that makes everything else possible.

Enrollment Growth
Woodlawn’s reputation across the Lake Norman region reflects two decades of consistent, outcomes-driven education. Families in Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, and across the broader region are choosing Woodlawn at a growing rate, and our enrollment strategy is designed to welcome them without compromising what makes this school worth choosing.
Growth is intentional here, which means it is governed by the same principle that governs everything else: what is best for the children and families Woodlawn serves.

Financial Sustainability
Woodlawn’s advancement model is evolving to match the ambition of the school’s strategic direction. The Blazer Fund, the New Horizons Campaign, corporate partnerships, planned giving, and event sponsorship work together to build a financial foundation that ensures Woodlawn’s independence and excellence for the families who will arrive a decade from now.
Every gift to Woodlawn is an investment in a PreK through 12 education that produces graduates who are ready for whatever comes next.
We Are Growing Into
Our Next Chapter.
The most visible expression of Woodlawn’s strategic initiative is Bowman Hall, a new Academic Center of Excellence that will transform what is possible for ‘Blazers across every division. Groundbreaking took place March 17, 2026, with a planned opening in January 2027!
Bowman Hall will house collaborative learning spaces, STEAM facilities, and community gathering areas designed for the way Woodlawn students actually work. It carries the name of co-founders Karen and Dwayne Bowman as a permanent acknowledgment of what they built and why it matters.
Ready to be part of
what comes next?
Every gift to Woodlawn, at any level, is part of the strategic initiative. The Blazer Fund supports daily operations. The New Horizons Campaign builds Bowman Hall. Together they build the school that extraordinary children deserve.
