John Cole Kirksey serves as Woodlawn’s Athletic Director, overseeing all twelve varsity teams and multiple middle school programs across eleven sports. Coach Kirksey brings competitive experience and a commitment to developing student athletes who are prepared to compete at the next level.
Under his leadership, Woodlawn competes in the Carolina State Athletic Association (CSAA) for state competition and the Carolina Christian Athletic Conference (CCAC) for conference play, supporting programs with the resources, coaching, and standards that reflect the school’s academic values.


A Davidson College graduate with a history degree, Kyle grew up in Piscataway, NJ and has coached multiple sports in the Lake Norman area. He served as head football coach at Brawley Middle School and sprints coach at Lake Norman High School. His coaching experience spans volleyball, basketball, football, track + field, and soccer.

A Language Arts and Social Studies teacher who also serves as Asst. Athletic Director, Coach Goss has coached multiple sports over five years at Woodlawn. His coaching focus centers on character building and the belief that team sports develop resilience, teamwork, and the ability to learn from failure.

Coach Haines has coached cross country and track since 2020, producing Woodlawn’s first individual state champion in 2021. Her coaching philosophy centers on building a team community where every athlete has the tools and support to reach their individual goals. She takes a holistic approach to athlete development, emphasizing strength, endurance, recovery, and nutrition.

wants to compete gets to compete.
Woodlawn’s no-cut policy means that any enrolled Middle or Upper School student can join any team. There are no tryouts. The coaches listed on this page are your first point of contact for each sport. Reach out directly or contact the Athletics office.
