Arts at Woodlawn · Music · Mooresville, NC

Music is how
‘Blazers learn to
listen deeply.

From PK through graduation, music at Woodlawn is about more than performance. General Music classes build the whole musician: playing instruments, singing together in chorus, and understanding how music is written, made, and passed down.

About the Program

General Music.
The whole musician.

Woodlawn’s music program is built around General Music: a curriculum that develops general music knowledge alongside the skills of making it. Students learn to read music, study music theory, meet the composers behind the repertoire and try composing themselves, and trace the history of music and musical instruments.

The learning is hands-on: students play instruments and sing together in chorus, and it culminates in real performances, from A Night of the Arts on campus to Christmas in Davidson in the wider community.

Music + the Woodlawn Arc

Listening is the
first step in every inquiry.

Music maps onto the Woodlawn Arc — inquiry through listening, integration through ensemble, immersion through sustained practice, and impact through performance. The Durable Skills a musician builds carry far beyond the stage: precision, persistence, and the ability to receive feedback and improve.

Music + Performing +
Fine Arts Pathway.

A deep music practice can anchor a Fine + Performing Arts Pathway of Purpose — from original composition to a community concert or research into music education for the Senior Capstone.
