Arts at Woodlawn · Voice · Mooresville, NC

Every ‘Blazer has
something to say.
Voice teaches them how.

Voice at Woodlawn is stage-driven: vocal performance built alongside acting and dance for plays and large productions. Choir and vocal arts develop breath, presence, listening, and the courage to be heard. From the earliest grades through graduation, voice is where ‘Blazers learn what their own sound is.

About the Program

The human voice
as instrument, as inquiry.

Voice at Woodlawn develops far more than singing. Breath, presence, listening, and the courage to be heard are the real curriculum, and they belong to every student, not just the soloists. Learning to use your voice with intention is one of the most direct paths to Advocacy, a defining Woodlawn graduate outcome.

From Early Childhood through Upper School, students sing in choir and ensemble, develop individually as vocalists, and perform throughout the year including at A Night of the Arts.

Choir + Ensemble
Group singing that teaches blend, harmony, and the discipline of holding your own part while listening to everyone else.
Vocal Development
Individual technique with breath control, range, and interpretation are built year over year as students grow as singers.
Musical Theater + Voice
Where singing meets the stage: voice connects directly to Musical Theater, plays, and the Red Barn Players’ large productions.

Voice + Advocacy

Advocacy begins with
knowing how to use your voice.

Singing teaches students that their voice has power and effect. The physical practice of breath and projection is the same foundation that gives a ‘Blazer the confidence to speak, present, and advocate. Students who know how to use their voice in performance know how to use it in every other context as well.

Voice + Performing +
Fine Arts Pathway.

A sustained vocal practice can anchor a Fine + Performing Arts Pathway with an original composition, a choral direction project, a community performance, or research into vocal pedagogy for the Senior Capstone.
