2018 SPAA Championship Meet Preview

The SPAA Conference Championship Meet will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 4pm at Alumni Track and Field on the Woodlawn campus. Woodlawn’s boys will be defending their 2017 title and are slight favorites to take the championship trophy again this year over Victory Christian. Woodlawn’s girls were runners-up in the team standings last season, and will be in a tight battle with Victory Christian and University Christian for the title this year.

In the boy’s competition, Woodlawn will be led by senior Tripp Berini, who is favored to win all three of the distance events (800m, 1600m, and 3200m runs). Freshman Jackson McGeough and 8th grader Aiden Lemons should also score points in those distance events. 8th grader RJ Klein is ranked first in the 400m dash, and Woodlawn will be counting on points in the other sprint events from senior Will Hedrick, junior Jack Hager, and sophomore Ethan Mason. Sophomore Jesse Jacobson will be looking to score in two field events (discus and triple jump) as well as the 400m dash.

On the girl’s side, the Trailblazers will lean on junior Megan Dailey, who is the current SPAA leader in the triple jump and is ranked second in the 100m dash and long jump. Freshmen Carmen Lolla and Gabby Edwards, along with junior Kasey Price will be looking to contribute in the sprint events, while 7th grader Adina Jacobson is expected to score in both the 1600m and 3200m runs. Freshmen Jessi Dickerson and Aubrey Dantzler will lead the way for Woodlawn in the throwing events, and Natalie Boyle hopes to continue her dominance in the high jump as well as score in the 100m hurdles.
