We believe great questions matter more than easy answers. Every student is taught to ask harder questions, challenge assumptions, and think from first principles.
Iteration
Learning doesn’t happen in a straight line. At Woodlawn, students draft, revise, test, and try again — building resilience alongside skills.

Deep engagement over surface coverage. Students spend real time with real problems — developing expertise, perspective, and voice.

Holly Honeycutt
Welcome to Woodlawn School,
I am often asked what sets Woodlawn apart, and my answer always returns to something simple yet powerful: a Woodlawn education is deeply personal. In a world that can feel increasingly impersonal, we believe in showing up for one another; face to face, heart to heart. Because of our size and the strength of our relationships, every student here is known, valued, and supported. No one is lost in a crowd.
At Woodlawn, we are guided by a long-term vision of student success. Our measure is not defined by a single assessment or moment in time, but by the kind of adults our students become; individuals who are thoughtful, resilient, joyful, and purposeful. If you join us for Commencement, you will see faculty from Preschool through Middle School lining the path, cheering on graduates they first taught many years earlier. That enduring connection reflects the depth of our commitment to each child’s journey.
We focus on the whole child. Academic growth is essential, but so is the development of character, creativity, athleticism, and a sense of responsibility to others. Our students are encouraged to participate fully in school life by taking intellectual risks, trying new things, and to stretch beyond what feels comfortable. Confidence grows through experience, and leadership grows from confidence. Here, students are given countless opportunities to discover their strengths and pursue what matters to them.
We are committed to excellence – not perfection, but progress. We believe in getting a little bit better every day. That mindset allows our students, and our community, to grow with purpose and humility. We see education not as a checklist, but as a dynamic, evolving process grounded in curiosity, passion, and care.
As both an educator and a parent, I understand how important it is to find a place where children are truly seen and supported as individuals. At Woodlawn, I have witnessed students with diverse interests, talents, and learning styles find their path because adults who believe in their talents walk alongside them every step of the way. That is the heart of our work.

Stinson Hall, built in 1836, anchors our campus in history. Surrounding it: outdoor classrooms, garden beds, athletic fields, and spaces designed to invite exploration at every age.
Our location in Davidson, NC — in the Lake Norman region between Charlotte and Mooresville — gives ‘Blazers access to a vibrant, engaged community of families, businesses, and partners.
