2015 Capital Projects

June 8, 2015

2015 Capital Projects

In October, 2014, Woodlawn announced the next phase of campus development. The first two projects in this phase include a new playground for lower school students and a new track & field complex.

We encourage Woodlawn families and friends to make a contribution or a pledge to contribute to these capital projects - just fill out the gift/pledge form and mail it or drop it off at the school office.

Playground

The playground is located in the area between Klein Hall and Garden Shed, necessitating the removal of the blacktop basketball court. It includes six different structures made of natural robinia wood and complements both the existing forested play area and future student-inspired structures. The equipment was delivered and installed in mid-June, 2015.

Track and Field Complex

In May, 2015, Woodlawn announced that several alumni families had committed $760,000 in donations and pledges toward the track & field complex. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2015 and be completed by December, 2015. The complex will include a 400-meter, eight-lane track, high jump pit, pole vault pit, two long jump pits, shot put area, and discus area. The interior of the track will include a natural grass soccer field built to NCAA standards. A parking lot with 50 spaces will be built adjacent to the south end of the track, along with a storage shed.

The complex will serve as the primary practice/competition venue for our varsity boys and girls track teams and our varsity girls and boys soccer teams. Middle school teams will also utilize the facility, as will the life sports programs for both lower and middle schools.

Track and Field Complex

In May, 2015, Woodlawn announced that several alumni families had committed $760,000 in donations and pledges toward the track & field complex. Construction began in August, 2015 and was completed in the spring of 2016. The complex includes a certified 400-meter, eight-lane track, high jump pit, pole vault pit, two long jump pits, shot put area, and discus area. The interior of the track includes a natural grass soccer field built to NCAA standards. A parking lot with 88 spaces is adjacent to the south end of the track, and there is stone seating for spectators along the home stretch.

The complex serves as the primary practice/competition venue for our varsity boys and girls track teams and our varsity girls and boys soccer teams. Middle school teams also utilize the facility, as do the life sports programs for both lower and middle schools. If you wish to make a contribution or a pledge to contribute to the track and field project - just fill out the gift/pledge form and mail it or drop it off at the school office.
