Woodlawn School Varsity Golf at Catawba Country Club

April 26, 2016

April 26 at Catawba Country Club

The 'Blazers were on fire, scoring a season low 196 in a four-team match against Hickory Christian, University Christian and Gaston Day -- their first sub-200 match of the season. The scores were close, with Gaston Day at 198, University Christian shooting 164, and Hickory Christian coming in at 170.

Hank Grzeszczak '19 led the way with a season-best 41, tied for second-lowest score out of all players in the match. He had a rough start, but then put together a string of six or so pars, including a beautiful sand save on the par-3 seventh hole. Clayton Kolls '18 shot a solid 46. Bennett Kolls '16 improved his score from an early match at this course, with a 53 -- followed by Josh Earle '19 with a 57, Adam Simkowitz '19 (coming on strong late in the season) with a 58, and Taylor Loyd '19 with a 63. Of note: on the difficult part-5 fifth hole, Adam hit his drive at least 240 yards, well past most of the other players' drives.

April 11 vs Carmel Christian

The Blazers put up a good fight against tough competitors on an even tougher course. Hank Grzeszczak '19 posted the low round for the team with a solid 46 -- and a very nice par on the nearly impossible par-5 seventh hole. Clayton Kolls '18 was close behind with a 50, followed by Bennett Kolls '16 (53), Josh Earle '19 (58), Adam Simkowitz '19 (60), and Ella Williams '19 (63). Shot of the day goes to Bennett, who chipped in for birdie on the eighth hole using his 60 degree wedge, after his sand wedge snapped earlier in the round. Final score: Woodlawn 207, Carmel Christian 184.
