SWIMMING

COME SEE THE DIFFERENCE
Swimming builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. And of course swimming is a valuable life-skill.

Swimming at Woodlawn started in 2010 with the middle school swimming “club” team. The varsity team joined interscholastic competition in 2013.

The varsity team competes in the NCISAA Class 1A/2A with the SPAA conference.

Boys and girls swim teams compete in the winter season.

Andrew Avery

MEET OUR Coach

My name is Andrew Avery and I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as your coach this season. Aquatics has long been a very large part of my life. I was a competitive swimmer for 8 years, but ultimately my swim career was the bridge that allowed me to get into coaching. I have worked in aquatics for the past 9 years. For 8 of those years I have worked as a swim coach, teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to coach many different swim teams big and small, and learn from some of the best coaches in the sport. Most notably I served as an assistant coach at the Lake Norman YMCA and coached the Lake Norman YMCA Tide for 4 years, including 8 seasons of summer/winter league. I also served 2 seasons as an assistant coach with the middle school swim team at Community School of Davidson, where in 2019 both my boys and girls teams won PCAC conference championships. Most recently for the 2020-2021 season I served as the head swim coach at SouthLake Christian Academy. I am currently working as a Pool Supervisor at Lake Norman YMCA and Sally’s YMCA in Denver. My goal as a coach is to help all of my swimmers become better, more passionate swimmers. I look forward to meeting all of you soon!
