Dear Woodlawn Community,
Winter 2020 was nothing less than spectacular for our Woodlawn Community. Our booster club thought it would be hard to beat our fall 2019, but in Woodlawn spirit and culture we had an amazing Winter!
I want to thank our school administrators, teachers, and volunteers…the fall and winter of 2019-2020 has surpassed the booster club’s vision we set out to accomplish back in the summer of 2019, and we could not do this without your support and help! We expect next year, when we are all back on campus, to be even greater and filled with many more amazing accomplishments!
Though we are all home safe, healthy & happy, and our community has gone virtual this doesn’t mean we are not “together”. This spring we may not be competing or able to socially interact on campus, we can still be a community happy, health, and full of wellness. We encourage student life and student athletes to think outside the box, go for runs in the woods, learn a new sport or activity online - like karate or yoga. Practice, practice, practice your sport(s) and your skills for next year, which promises to be our best year ever. Woodlawn is also offering an online chess club for our lower, middle, and upper schoolers, and the life sports team is sending links out weekly for our students to stay active at home. Enjoy this time, practice hard, and continue to be active and healthy!
We can’t wait to see you all back on campus, student life, student athletes, parents, teachers, and faculty - all together in 2020 – 2021. It will be our best year ever and the booster club intends to support and help our Woodlawn community grow like never before. Be safe, stay home, and be healthy & happy! We can’t wait to get back on campus soon!
Best to all!
The Woodlawn Booster Club
Winter 2020 Sports Summary and Accomplishments
We enjoyed various basketball tailgates for our MS and varsity teams with great food, music, and spirit. We collaborated on a fantastic STEAMFest run by our incredible Parent Connection, Woodlawn captured another conference team championship, and to top it off we had many school “firsts” this winter.
- Girls Basketball Thank you to Coach Chade and Coach Stephanie for their help in our Trailblazers Basketball Clinics. These girls showed up and worked extremely hard for those 3 months. They were able to learn and execute the basketball fundamentals. This will be the spark to an incredible girls program soon to come!
- Swimming Congrats to Coach Chris and his swim team on accomplishing several accolades. 2019-2020 SPAA Team Champions. Al Wills SPAA Conference Swimmer of the Year. Al won 1st place in his heat at the NCISAA Swim Championships. Thank you to Al Wills for his dedication and accomplishments over the past 7 years.
- Boys Basketball Our Boys Basketball team was able to accomplish several school records this past winter. We were able to honor our 3 seniors and send them off in style on a phenomenal senior night! Woodlawn won a record 14 games, earned a first round NCISAA state tournament bye, and hosted a 2nd round NCISAA State Tournament game. SPAA All Conference Awards - Jesse Jacobson & Scott Morozov. NCISAA Senior All Star Game Nominations - Jesse Jacobson & Michael Shepherd. Thank you to Ethan Essex, Jesse Jacobson and Michael Shepherd for all of their hard work in our basketball program.
- Middle School Basketball Coach Kyle did a terrific job in leading our MS boys all season. Our team made history in one of the longest Overtime contests. They were able to defeat Liberty Prep in sudden death, following a two-overtime tie. Russell Jacobson was able to hit the game winning shot. We are very excited to see the future with this young group of talent.
