With over 4 billion fans soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Woodlawn fielded it’s first varsity team in 2014 and now competes in the NCISAA 1A division. The Boys team plays in the Fall and the Girls in the Spring. Our teams practice and host home games on the NCAA regulation sized natural turf Alumni Field. Soccer is an excellent sport for youth of all ages as it builds athletic strength, coordination and fosters teamwork. In addition to playing on the varsity team, many of our scholar athletes participate in club leagues and go on to play in the NCAA.
The varsity boys team and the co-ed middle school team play in the fall and girls varsity team plays in the spring.
Submit the form below to sign up for one of our athletic teams. The coach will contact you within a few days to confirm.

- What experience do you have playing soccer? – I have played since I was 4 years old. I was a Goalkeeper and played throughout college. In college I practiced with Campbell University’s club team and in high school I was a goalkeeper. In my senior year of high school, we were state finalists and were the first team in our high school’s history to make the state championship in almost 20 years. I also oversaw soccer officiating when I was an intramural sports supervisor at Campbell University.
- What experience do you have coaching soccer? – In officiating, I am a US Soccer Certified Official. With regards to coaching, I am US Soccer Grassroots Certified for Coaching. I have assisted coaching goalkeepers off and on for a few years but this is my first time as a head coach.
- What makes soccer special to you? – This was the sport I was raised in. My dad played soccer and my brothers played soccer and it was a connection for me and my family. My dad was my coach for most of my life so whenever I step out onto the pitch I think of him and remember him. I remember how much the sport meant to him when he played and coached and so it brings up a lot of memories and means a lot to me.
- What would you tell a student to get them interested in soccer? – That you don’t have to have experience with the sport in order to play. We have players of different ages and years of experience on our team but our focus is on growth, camaraderie, and skill development. We want to build a culture at Woodlawn where players can become brothers and become one family. I often show my players a lot of clips from Ted Lasso, which is one of my favorite shows. It may seem silly because it’s a fictional character but a lot of what Ted does and imparts on AFC Richmond, has lessons we can use in real life. I try to tell my players above all else that we are a family first and that that only can happen if we build a good, tight-knit culture.

Welcome Middle School Soccer Players and Families!
We want to welcome you all to the upcoming soccer season with great excitement and anticipation. We cannot wait to see those of you that are returning again and to meet the new players to the team as well. This looks to be a very bright season ahead of us, beginning with our first game on September 1st. Both of us are looking forward to seeing everyone develop as players and hopefully have some fun along the way. With these two things in place first, the results will show in our games! We hope everyone has a relaxing end to their summers and comes back refreshed and ready to play some soccer!
Best regards,
Coaches Jack Barron and Joe Jamison
Welcome Varsity Soccer Team
Today kicks off the Woodlawn soccer preseason with our first official practice. Both middle and high school players are welcome to come out and begin working to improve their game in preparation for the fall season. Whether you've been training hard all summer, or saving it all for the season it's that time of year to rejoin your teammates and begin playing as a team. Practices will be held from 6-8 PM Monday - Friday. Dr. Stutzmans family friendly pick-up soccer will be incorporated into the preseason practice on Tuesdays from 7-8, and all are still welcome to attend.
I look forward to welcoming back the core group of varsity players from our inaugural year, and adding some new players to round out or roster. Our first game (8/17) is fast approaching and there is a good deal of preparation to be done. I am excited to begin work as a team. Topics for preseason include: defending 1v1, indiv. and team possession of the ball, passing/finishing, movement off the ball, and team transitions. There is also sure to be a steady stream of cardio and speed/agility drills throughout!
