Woodlawn Boys Place Fourth, Girls Take Sixth at State Meet

Oct. 27, 2017 – The Trailblazers traveled to WakeMed Park in Cary for the NCISAA 1A State Meet on a beautiful October afternoon. The Woodlawn boys went into the race with hopes of extending their state title streak to four years in a row, but a freak accident to our #3 runner in the first mile of the race took the Trailblazers out of contention for the team victory. Senior Tripp Berini took charge of the race in the first mile and never looked back, as he won the individual title by a comfortable margin – the third straight year a Woodlawn runner has won the boys race. Tripp’s time of 18:18 was only 1 second off his personal best. Freshman Jackson McGeough was not far behind, placing third in the race with a time of 18:51. Junior Henry Sneed completed the Woodlawn scoring with a 44th place finish.

The Woodlawn girls also ran strong races. 7th grader Adina Jacobson had the only Woodlawn personal best of the day with a 22:52, joining Tripp and Jackson on the All-State Team with her 10th place finish. She was followed by junior Ally Fleming and senior Zoe Milburn, who finished only seconds away from their personal records in 27th and 28th places respectively. Junior Emma McGeough finished with a season best time of 28:22.
